Transport Committee

Archived page

This page contains information about a former committee that was dissolved with the merger of Marrickville Council into Inner West Council on 12 May 2016.

Visit the Inner West Council website for information about the newly formed Strategic Reference Groups, which serve a similar role to the former Marrickville Council advisory and consultative committees.

The Marrickville Transport Committee was originally formed out of the Council's Bicycle Committee, and is intended to provide a forum for discussion and advice to Council on transport issues in the Marrickville LGA and region. It held its first meeting in 2001, then met again in November 2005 and has been meeting four times a year ever since.

Meetings are usually held between 6–8pm on the first Thursday in the months of February, May, August and November. Three or four items are discussed with other items included in the business paper for information.

The Committee is guided by the vision in the Marrickville Community Strategic Plan. In particular, the Committee will contribute to the following outcomes:

  • The community is active and healthy
  • The community feels safe, connected and has accessible infrastructure
  • The community is responding to climate change and actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • The community walks, rides bikes and uses public transport
  • Marrickville's roads are safer and less congested
  • Marrickville's streets, lanes and public spaces are sustainable, welcoming, accessible and clean
  • The community is active in finding creative solutions to complex urban sustainability issues

The Transport Committee has one sub-committee, the Bicycle Working Group, which usually meets two weeks before each Transport Committee meeting.

The meeting agenda and business papers are distributed to Committee members before the meeting and Committee meeting Minutes are reported to Council meetings for information and endorsement. Agenda items, business papers and minutes are available below.

The Committee is comprised of a range of Council staff and members of the community including those from Bike Marrickville and Action for Public Transport; the Chair of the Committee is a Marrickville Councillor. State agency representatives attend when required.

The Transport Committee is administered by Council's Strategic Transport Planner, who can be contacted via the Council phone number 02 9392 5000 or e-mail council@marrickville.nsw.gov.au.
