Inner West Council was formed from the merger of the former Marrickville, Ashfield and Leichhardt councils on Thursday 12 May 2016. The new Inner West Council area has a population of 185,000 people and covers an area of 36km². It comprises some of Sydney's most funky, vibrant, creative and diverse suburbs:
