New Local SES Headquarters

In 2005, as part of Council's Major Projects program, it was identified that the current building and facilities housing the local SES (State Emergency Services) headquarters – built in the 1920s at 209 Livingstone Road, Marrickville – were no longer suitable. Council needed to find a new suitable location for the operation.

After exploring numerous options, design concepts were developed to build a new facility at 3–17 Railway Road, Sydenham. The new site is larger, at about 1085sqm, and will provide the SES with more space to safely house its operations and emergency vehicles. The new building will be a simple, industrial style building sympathetically dealing with the nearby "Stone Villa" and the heritage issues of the area. The new building has been designed to address the noise issues of the site's proximity to Sydney Airport and the low flight paths above the building by acoustically treating the interior spaces.

Construction work on the new building began in April 2014, with completion expected in late December 2014.
