Mandatory labelling means you can be confident of making a water efficient choice. Washing machines and dishwashers with a high water efficiency ‘star’ rating use about half the amount of water as conventional models, while still giving you the same quality clean.

For more information on how to choose a water efficient appliance check out the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Scheme website at www.waterrating.gov.au.

How much water will I save?

Installing water efficient taps, showerheads, flow regulators or tap aerators is an inexpensive way to cut your water usage. Installing a water efficient showerhead will give you a comfortable shower while using up to 50% less water and less energy.

Dual flush toilets can save up to 50% of water used. Alternatively a simple and inexpensive cistern weight (available from the Green Living Centre) can be easily installed and reduce your water use.

Replace washers in leaking taps as soon as you notice the problem and remind your family to ensure taps are turned off completely after using. A leaking toilet or tap can waste over 2000 litres of water per month!
