Stencil Your Street

Inner West Council's Stencil Your Street program connects urban residents with their waterways – the Cooks River in the south and Parramatta River to the north.

Everything we do in our streets has an impact on our waterways. By stencilling drains, everyone will know that whatever goes down the drain ends up in our rivers. The drains are just for rain!

How to get involved

1. Register your interest

Residents, schools and business owners in the Inner West Council area can request to do a stencil by emailing water@innerwest.nsw.gov.au or calling 9335 2104.

2. Collect the stencilling kit

When Council receives your request, we will arrange a meeting with you at the Petersham Service Centre: 2-14 Fisher Street, Petersham NSW 2049.

At this meeting:

  • We will give you a map and agree on the area you will stencil.
  • Staff will show you the stencilling equipment, how to use it and how to stencil safely.
  • We will ask you to sign an agreement to follow all the instructions provided.

3. Get spraying

Council would like photos of your group and the stencilled drains. With your approval, we will pin the location and photos to the online Stencil Your Street map, connecting community to our waterways every day.

A little info

  • Stencilling group sizes should be no bigger than five people.
  • Multiple drains can be stencilled in the same street.
  • Council staff will provide all materials and safety equipment.
