Bin information

Households pay an annual domestic waste charge (DWC) to Council to manage and collect their residential waste. Information about waste charges, and costs associated with lost, stolen and damaged bins is given below. Council does not service business waste.

If you live in a house

The domestic waste charge (DWC) of $525.00 per annum (2016/17 fee) entitles residents to the following:

  • 1 × 140L garbage bin (red lid)
  • 1 × 240L recycling bin (yellow lid)
  • 1 × 240L green waste bin (green lid)

The waste charge also entitles residents to use the booked clean up service for large household items such as furniture, mattresses and metal goods every week in addition to four scheduled household chemical and e-waste drop offs every year.

If you live in a unit

The domestic waste charge (DWC) of $525.00 per annum (2016/17 fee) entitles residents to the following:

  • 1 × 240 L garbage bin (red lid) per two units
  • 1 × 240 L recycling bin (yellow lid) per two units
  • Optional 240 L green waste bins (green lid) for garden material from the building

The waste charge also entitles residents to use the booked clean up service for large household items such as furniture, mattresses and metal goods every week in addition to four scheduled household chemical and e-waste drop off days every year.

Please place your bins out for emptying the night before collection and return them to your property within 24 hours. Ensure you keep your bins inside your property at all times except on collection days. Download our Garbage Collection Policy for more information.

Apartment rebate – Strata application where a private contractor is used for garbage and recycling services

Strata managers who engage a private contractor to collect garbage and recycling from new apartments containing 20 or more units are eligible to apply for a rebate for each unit.

Note: This is where Council garbage and recycling bins/services are not provided. The reduced charge provides access to booked household clean up, drop offs (e.g. e-waste and chemicals) and programs.

Strata managers must complete this application form providing details of the garbage and recycling contractors, weights generated, and supporting evidence by the end of July each year. Please note the reporting period is from the previous financial year (July to June).

The rebate will be credited on the second rates notice of each individual unit by September each year.

Additional bins and changing your bin size

Garbage bin (red lid)

You will need to pay for an additional waste service if you require an extra garbage bin or a larger one. The additional waste charge is $298.07 per annum for a supplementary 140 L red lid bin only or $525.00 per annum for an additional service, which also includes recycling and green waste bins. Please contact Council online to request an additional or larger bin.

Recycling bin (yellow lid)

An extra bin or a larger bin can be provided free of charge if you have too much recycling for one bin. Please contact Council online to request an extra bin.

Requests to downsize your recycling bin incur a charge of $67.60 ($33.80 for pensioners). However, residents who want a smaller bin due a medical condition or physical disability can request to downsize their bin free of charge upon the presentation of a doctor's certificate. Please contact us online. You can also download the request for a smaller recycling bin form and send it by post or email to the address provided in the form.

Green waste bin (green lid)

Additional green waste bins may be provided free of charge if you regularly have excess amounts of green waste at your residence. Please contact Council online to request an extra bin.

Lost or stolen bins

Contact Council online to report a lost or stolen bin. You will need to pay a fee to replace the lost bin. Following payment, a search is conducted in the surrounding area and on collection day. A full refund of the replacement fee will be provided should your bin be found. Replacement fees depend on the bin size and discount for pensioners apply.
